Gijsbrecht van Aemstelpark for a Relaxed Stroll
Gijsbrecht van Aemstelpark in Amsterdam Buitenveldert is a long, narrow strip of greenery that serves as an ecological link between the Amstelpark and the Amsterdamse Bos. It is a very quiet park, featuring many trees, benches, a memorial, and various sculptures. The paths in the park have names such as Twikkel, Hunneschans, De Kamp, Enzerinck, Hinderstein, and Moersbergen.

What to do in the Gijsbrecht van Aemstelpark?
A ten-kilometre walking and running route runs through the park. The park itself is not ten kilometres long, but it forms part of a long green corridor together with the adjacent Amstelpark and the Amsterdamse Bos.
For young children, there is a water playground. Older kids can enjoy a football cage and a stilt path that partly runs through shallow water where the challenge is to avoid getting your feet wet.
You can also play board games such as Ludo, chess, and checkers. Additionally, there is a court for enthusiasts of jeu de boules.
In the shallow part of the water feature, there are stepping stones. The aim is to walk across it without getting wet. At the end of the path is an island, from which you can reach the other side safely via another route.

The Tree of Life
Twikkel features a water element and gently sloping terrain adorned with plants. On Ontmoetingseiland (Meeting Island) stands the artwork ‘de Levensboom’ (The Tree of Life). The Memorial is also located in this part of the park.

The Memorial
The Memorial is a stainless steel diamond resting on its side. The engraved text reads: “If you could remember what I remember, you would understand.”
