Dutch and international artists create a Festival of Light in Amsterdam. During the Amsterdam Light Festival the centre of Amsterdam is lit up by luminous installations and site-specific light sculptures at various places in the centre of Amsterdam and along the canals. The dark winter nights are illuminated by bright works of art and light projections that make bridges, churches and buildings come to life in a majestic way. The festival has two themes: water and land.
The best way to visit the water exhibition is by boat. You will sail past artworks that are illuminated from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. (8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve). The land exposition takes place at the Marineterrein, within walking distance of Amsterdam Central Station. Entrance to the exhibition is free and it is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (New Year’s Eve until 8 p.m.).
