When the temperatures drop, the Dutch dig out their skates! The canals may not be frozen over yet, but there are plenty of spots to practice your skating skills. Be sure to head straight for the skating rink at Museumplein in Amsterdam, with the Rijksmuseum as its backdrop. Put your skates on and enjoy this winter pleasure or simply watch the skaters going round and round.
Take in the atmosphere in Brasserie Winters located right next to the skating rink. Be sure to sample some Dutch winter delicacies. Be Dutch with the Dutch and indulge in pea soup with smoked sausage and served with rye bread. Practice your skating skills or sign up for skating lessons on Saturday or Sunday mornings. Bring your ID-card if you would like to rent skates.
