MoCo Museum of Modern Contemporary Art

Modern art for everybody! The Moco, Modern Contemporary Art Museum, hosts exhibitions of modern art artists. Moco was the first museum to show works of Banksy whose nickname is: the art terrorist of the graffiti scene whose works are provoking, disturbing and shocking. Moco differentiates itself from other museum as it focuses on ‘art for everybody’. Moco is the only museum to display works by Banksy. His works suddenly appear in unexpected places. He never asks for permission to place his art in the public space, he simply puts it there. Banksy, a British graffiti artist, is famous but anonymous. He is of opinion that his art is meant for everyone. Collectors appreciate his art and buy his works to adorn the walls of their homes. The Moco Museum ensures that everyone can view Banksy’s art; that is why the museum is proud to display his works.

Moco Museum: Art for Everyone

The Moco Museum is a boutique museum in Amsterdam and exhibits a wide range of modern and contemporary art. The works of artists displayed in the museum have all in common that they all all tongue in cheek and criticize contemporary society. A visit to the Moco Museum is inspirational and a true eye-opener.
Moco appeals to the general public. Visitors to the Moco museum will see exclusive art, not found anywhere else. Besides works of Banksy and Warhol, Moco also exhibits art of Haring, JR, Kusama, Studio Irma and other famous artists.

Who is Banksy?

Banksy is known and yet unknown. His street art is controversial and appears in unusual places in many large cities all over the world. Little is known about the man himself; he lives in Bristol, England, in the early 1990s he began painting murals and other works of art. In 2003, his street art appeared for the first time, humorous and often ‘art with a message’. Taking these facts into consideration, it is assumed that Banksy was born in the 1970s.

Location

Not only the exhibition, also the villa where the museum houses is worth visiting: Villa Alsberg, designed in 1904 by a cousin of Pierre Cuypers, who is famous for his design of the Rijksmuseum.
