Budget Restaurants in Amsterdam

Fresh and affordable meals are easy to find in Amsterdam. You never have to walk far to find cheap eats. Amsterdam has many low cost lunch or dining options that offer healthy and tasty food. The restaurants in town offer plenty of options from classic to creative and from fish to vegetarian.

Here are some affordable restaurants when in Amsterdam on a tight budget:

1. Eetcafé de Groene Olifant

Sarphatistraat 510 – Eetcafé (lunch café) in brown café style, order from the bar. Terrace that catches the sun until it’s almost set, in demand for after office hour drinks, central location but no Rembrandtplein or Leidseplein prices.

2. Studio K.

Timorplein 62 – Café-cum-cinema located in a former school building, popular hang-out for cult film, music and theatre addicts. The menu is short and to the point listing meat, fish and vega dishes.

3. De Hortus

Plantage Middenlaan 2a – Café in the orangerie of the botanical gardens. Tasty sandwiches and rolls. The best cheese cake in the western world.

4. Café Morlang

Keizersgracht 451 – It is difficult to ignore the welcoming canal side terrace. Order tomato soup with crème fraiche and basil oil or choose from the menu with eastern influences and an array of Italian favourites. Sit inside in winter, grab a fashion magazine and sip a glass of red wine and watch the world go by.

5. Van Kerkwijk

Nes 41 – Great spot for a casual snack. Terrific appel pie, granny style, and café latte are reasons enough to come back for a full meal in the evening. You are in for a big surprise as Van Kerkwijk doesn’t have a fixed menu nor a menu card. Make yourself comfortable and listen to the recital of specials upon arrival.
